It may seem daunting at first to try braiding if you're a beginner, but it's nothing you can't achieve with a little instruction and a bit of practice.
Here is a great instructional video for braiding your bangs that I found on YouTube:

If you've mastered braiding your own hair you may want kick things up a notch try braiding a ribbon colored extension into your hair!
Try something like the picture below, taken from Rachel Roy's Fall '11 show, with a look created by Stylist Ted Gibson.

Here is link to Refinery29's "How-To" for the style above: http://www.refinery29.com/the-perfect-summer-braid-we-can-t-wait-to-try#slide-1

I hope this can inspire you to step out of the box and try something new, you will be surprised how many people take notice of your new look.

Enjoy!!

Before and After: Jenna Bridal Makeup

I recently had the pleasure of doing bridal makeup on a good friend of mine. My main goals when doing Jenna's makeup were to correct any uneven color in her complexion and to bring out her beautiful brown eyes. I aimed to accomplish this goal while keeping a very natural and sweet look, Jenna didn't want to look too "done-up".

The result was a beautiful fresh-faced look with a rosy pink lip and a glowing complexion.

Before and After: Elaine at the Blackhawk Auto Museum

Recently at a bridal trial I was told it would be helpful if  I posted "before and after" photos on my website to show complete wedding day transformations. I found it to be a very good point and  I am now making an effort to remember to take the before photos prior to the beautifying process.

Today I did Elaine's hair for her wedding at The Blackhawk Auto Museum in Danville. Elaine chose a very classic style, a low bun with polished pin curls and some volume near the crown of her head. We used clip in extensions to add to the fullness of the bun and added some cute hair accessories as well.

Please excuse the picture quality, there will be professional photos soon to come on my website JaclynJeanBridal.com

Kick off the New Year with a new outlook on short hair!

I had my very first wedding of 2012 this week! I styled Colette's hair for her San Francisco City Hall Wedding. Colette's hair is pretty short and fairly curly so we went for an organic look with a little grecian twist, and the result.......

I have met my fair share of brides with short hair that feel like theres not much that could be done with such little hair but I love the challenge. The possibilities are endless with headbands, hair accessories and a little creativity!

What a great way to start off the new year! Congratulations to the very happy couple and Happy New Year to everyone!!

Ombre Hair Color - Is it right for you?

Have you been wondering why all the celebrities are wearing the grown out looking highlights?

This hot new look is called the OMBRE - which in simple terms means a gradual change in shade from dark to light or from one shade to another.
In hairstylist terms the Ombre technique generally means a gradual change in color, usually darker at the root while gradually getting lighter toward the ends.

The results of Ombre hair color can vary greatly but can range from seamlessly sun kissed to funky and eye-catching.

Style Icons Alexa Chung and Rachel Bilson have adopted the Ombre hair color technique as their signature looks.

What is the appeal of having Ombre hair color?

In most cases this technique can actually save you a trip to the salon because of the low maintenance grow out process. It may not be for everyone, but for the ladies that want some lightness and dimension without being so perfectly polished it could be a match made in heaven. The Ombre look can also give your highlighted hair a break from the constant highlighting.
A traditional highlight client may have to go in for a touch up as often as every three weeks to avoid that dreaded demarcation line but an Ombre hair color client can enjoy their grow out time without having to constantly run back to their hair stylist.

Don't Fall Short of the Perfect Wedding Day Hair Style

I often hear comment's from future bride's like "I'm growing my hair out for the wedding" or "my hair is too thin for the style I want".

Well I have good news for you ladies! The possibilities are ENDLESS now!

Special Occasion Extensions

Extensions can be a life saver for the bride looking for more fullness and length. Special occasion extensions can be easily removed and can help to achieve styles that you didn't know were possible for your hair.
Special occasion extension can vary in color, texture and ways that they are incorporated into the hair. I often color the extensions after meeting with the bride to assure that they will match perfectly. Sometimes I add clip-in's for down styling and other times I will incorporate the hair into an updo.
Below are two examples of brides I have used extensions on to enhance their look.

Bride Karen shown above had shoulder length hair, but with the help of the extensions, her updo looks full and beautiful.

The blonde hair extensions I used on Colleen helped me to take her above shoulder length hair to an elegant vintage updo with intricate pin curls.

Rock what you've got!!

Having short hair may seem like a negative when trying to achieve a style for your wedding day but there are more options then you may have once thought! You want to be yourself on your wedding day and if short hair is your thing, then go for a style that doesn't camouflage your cute haircut!

One of my very favorite hairstyles at the Oscars this year was Scarlett Johansson's short style. She offset her beautiful dress and glamorous makeup with a more casual down style. I love the random texture given to her hair and with the addition of a little shine serum, her locks took center stage.

The bride in this photo's short hair was curled and pinned back in a tousled updo.

This Vintage wave can be achieved on almost any length of hair!

2011 Trend Spotting Bridal Hair Styles

With spring just around the corner brides everywhere are making preparations for their big days.I can't help but have bridal beauty on the brain and wonder what beautiful looks I will have the pleasure of creating this year!

2010 was the year of tousled curls and beautiful natural texture.
Trendsetters like Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood and Michelle Williams walked the red carpet with their side-swept curls and half up do's, making a comeback for natural waves and curls.

According to the Spring 2011 Carolina Herrera runway show, sleek and sophisticated twists and buns may be all the rage this year, but don't forget my very favorite addition to any style........
                                               HAIR ACCESSORIES!!
flowers, pins, feathers, pearls, gems, headbands and birdcage veils you name it!
I've had a lot of luck finding unique hair pieces and accessories on Etsy.com but even fresh flowers from your florist can add a personal touch to your look.

I personally LOVE to create vintage looks for brides, and fortunately for everyone these classic styles always seem to stay fresh and beautiful; never going out of style! (bottom look created by me for Bride Kelli Tager JaclynJean.com)

Any style can be customized to fit the brides vision of her perfect wedding day look. Whether a bride is going for a Tousled, Sleek or Vintage look for their wedding day, the most important factor is that bride feels beautiful.
